Rowland: Disappointing not to beat Pascal in virtual New York

Nissan e.dams driver Oliver Rowland took a podium today in New York City for round six of the ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge, following his win in last week’s race in Berlin.

Rowland qualifying in P6 on the newly created virtual New York track, the scene of the team’s maiden victory in the live-racing season last year. Rising as high as P2 towards the end of the race in an intense and entertaining three-car battle.

Teammate, Sebastien Buemi, who took the victory herein season five, qualified in P8 and maintained his position to the finish line.

The ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge is split into two grids and two races; the Driver Grid made up of Formula E racers, and the Challenge Grid of sim racers.

In today’s Challenge Grid event, sim racer Jan von Der Heyde made it a double podium for the team. von Der Heyde advanced into P2 early on after qualifying in P4, and ultimately took the checkered flag crossing the line in P2.

Sim racing teammate, Niek Jacobs qualified in P17 and finished the race in P12.

The online racing series represents Formula E, the pinnacle of real-world zero-emission racing, as the height of zero-emission competition in the virtual world.

This aligns with Nissan’s goal of zero emissions and zero fatalities, an important pillar of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the brand’s vision for changing how cars are driven, powered, and connected into society.

The ABB Formula E Race at Home Challenge raises funds for UNICEF’s global coronavirus appeal, helping keep children safe, healthy, and learning in the face of the pandemic.

OLIVER ROWLAND: “A good race coming from P6 to get another podium. I made a small error in qualifying so I wasn’t in the ideal starting position, but I got through. A little disappointing not to beat Pascal Wehrlein as I was ahead of him, but I made a small mistake. Still, a good result, and for a good cause in support of UNICEF.”

SEBASTIEN BUEMI: “I finished P8, which is my best result so far in the sim racing, so I’m happy. I am happy also because Oli got a podium for the team. I am improving step by step, which is good.”
