Assetto Corsa: eRace Of Champions goes virtual, enter now!

Sim Racing during lockdown just keeps on giving as the eRace of Champions has gone virtual with a high-profile pixel version of their event with free entry to sim racers who fancy their shot going up against some of the nest sim pros in the world as well as big-name race drivers on Assetto Corsa.

Registrations are now open for the worldwide eROC qualifier for the Virtual Race Of Champions on Sunday 28 June. Fans of sim racing all around the world can now sign up to claim a place in the eROC part of the first virtual edition of Race Of Champions.

They will then take on the first two eROC Champions Enzo Bonito and James Baldwin for a chance to compete against the likes of Stoffel Vandoorne, Petter Solberg, Rene Rast, Benito Guerra and many more stars.

The eRace Of Champions was launched in early 2018 as part of ROC Riyadh, in a bid to give talented sim racers the chance to transfer their skills from the virtual to the real racing world and compete in identical cars against some of the world’s biggest stars of motorsport.

Italy’s Enzo Bonito won the first eROC edition in Saudi Arabia and went on to represent Ferrari in the F1 Esports Series. Veloce racer James Baldwin became the second eROC champion at ROC Mexico 2019. Both Bonito and Baldwin went on to beat some of the world’s best racers in real race cars in the actual Race Of Champions competition.

The fastest two drivers will earn a place in the eROC final and compete against former eROC champions Baldwin and Bonito. The winner of that event will take on the best real racers from the Virtual Race Of Champions, where stars from Formula 1, Le Mans, Formula E, touring cars, World Rally & Rallycross, have already signed up.

2019 eROC Champion James Baldwin said: “My entire eROC experience was fantastic and helped propel me into so many other things. It gave me a lot of confidence in myself that I could beat the best of the best in sim racing and it improved my ability to perform under pressure. After an event like that, nothing really seems to faze you because it was so intense.”

Baldwin has some sound advice for anyone wishing to take part: “It’s an amazing opportunity. Anyone can do it. You don’t have to have expensive equipment. It’s just up to you to put in the work especially as the level is even higher right now since more people have got involved in sim racing during the pandemic.”

“You’ve got to find a way to perform under pressure and perform around people as well. If you want to win in the Race Of Champions, you have to be on the limit, without making mistakes. Not many people get the opportunity that me and Enzo have had, but we started off where they were…”

The Virtual Race of Champions, which is organised in partnership with Motorsport Games, will follow a similar format to the real-world Race Of Champions, with some of the biggest stars from the world’s main motorsport series going head to head in identical cars. They will face off on virtual versions of some of the most iconic venues of ROC’s rich history, such as the mixed gravel and tarmac roads of the original Gran Canaria track and the twists and turns of London’s Wembley Stadium.

The event will take place on Sunday June 28 at 18:00 UK time (19:00 CET) and will be streamed live on the Race Of Champions Youtube and Facebook channels.
